International Conference on Fair Globalization - Safe Workplace

Policies, Strategies and Practices for Sustainable Development

A conference on «Fair Globalization - Safe Workplace — Policies, Strategies and Practices for Sustainable Development» will take place in Düsseldorf from 24 to 26 October 2005.

Fair globalization requires sustainable development strategies for occupational safety and health (OSH) and Labour Inspection to entitle everybody to decent working conditions. The Conference will provide a platform of exchange for high-level speakers and an estimate of 300 participants from governments, worker and employer representatives, institutes, multinational companies and other stakeholders in civil society. It will shed light on the economics of occupational safety and investigate instruments to ensure and unite social justice and economic success.

Given their unique position as a strategic interface between workers, employers, governments, labour inspectors have the ability to directly promote equitable working conditions and to contribute to economic growth by improving occupational safety and health standards. Policies, strategies and practices for sustainable development will be discussed, including integrated approaches for labour inspectorates.

The conference is joinltly organized by the International Labour Office, the REW and the German Federation of Institutions for Statutory Accident Insurance and Prevention (HVBG), a CIS collaborating center.
