The Council of the European Union has a adopted a Resolution on Good Work that takes up the theme of the Communication of the European Commission of 21 February 2007, "Improving the quality of work and productivity: Community Strategy on Safety and Health at Work 2007-2012".

The Resolution sets out objectives that should be established in order to maintain a continuous and sustainable reduction in occupational accidents and diseases and states that national strategies should prioritize the implementation of instruments that guarantee an increased level of respect of legislative requirements, in particular in small and medium size enterprises and in high-risk sectors. It proposes that research efforts should be intensified in certain areas, such as psychosocial issues, musculoskeletal disorders, dangerous substances, reproductive hazards, hazards of new technologies (e.g. nanotechnology), hazards of new forms of work organization and the management of safety and health at work.
