Prominent distinction for the Director of the ILO-SafeWork Programme

A survey conducted by the journal Occupational Hazards has included the Director of the ILO International Programme on Safety and Health at Work and the Environment (SafeWork), Dr Sameera Al-Tuwaijri, among the 50 most influential people in the field of occupational safety and health over the last decade. The recognition of these leaders was based on work with a strong and lasting positive impact on workplace environment, health and safety.

Among the people on the list are government officials, academics, union leaders, legislators, company-based professionals, the presidents of professional associations, safety industry leaders, safety "gurus" and worker advocates. Dr Al-Tuwaijri was acknowledged for her advocacy, among safety and health stakeholders, of effective strategies and policies. Specifically, it was stated that "under her leadership, SafeWork places the safety and health of workers on the international agenda".

The ILO SafeWork Programme will continue to strive for these goals and live up to the credibility the world has entrusted it with.
