Gender at the heart of the Decent Work campaign

The ILO celebrates the 10th anniversary of its gender equality action plan by launching a global campaign on gender equality and the world of work, which takes place over the period June 2008 - June 2009 and culminates with a general discussion on "Gender equality at the Heart of Decent Work" at the International Labour Conference.

The objectives of the campaign include to increase general awareness and understanding of gender equality issues in the world of work and highlight the specific linkages between gender equality and securing decent work for all women and men.

The campaign is built around 12 different Decent Work themes. These themes are looked at through a gender lens to illustrate how various issues in the world of work may affect women and men in different ways. The campaign produces an information brief for each theme, accompanied by a poster and postcard. The theme of the campaign for April 2009 was: "Providing safe and healthy workplaces for both men and women".

For further information, visit the Web page on the issue. You may as well have a look at the poster, the postcard and the brochure on the theme of "Providing safe and healthy workplaces for both women and men" that have been prepared by the ILO Bureau for Gender Equality.
