The Czech Republic ratified the ILO Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 2006 (No. 187) on 13 October 2008. The Convention will become effective on 20 February 2009, bringing to 62 the number of Conventions ratified by the Czech Republic. The Convention and its accompanying Recommendation are based on the ILO's Global Strategy on Occupational Safety and Health, which promotes the development of a preventative safety and health culture through raising OSH higher in national agendas by launching national occupational safety and health programmes, as well as the promotion of safer and healthier working environments through preventative measures.
The Czech Republic had already ratified in 1993 the Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 1981 (No. 155).
In 2007 and 2008, the following six countries also ratified the Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 2006 (No. 187) (in alphabetical order): Cuba, Finland, Japan, Korea (Rep. of), United Kingdom and Sweden. See the ILOLEX database for more information on ILO Conventions and Recommendations.
