An ILO conference on Making Decent Work a Global Goal and a National Reality will be held in Düsseldorf, Germany, 18-20 September 2007. Topics to be covered include decent work and sustainable development, good governance at work in a global economy, international labour standards, effective labour inspection, decent work at the enterprise level in the logistics and transport industry and in the supply chain, and the contribution of prevention to social security. Mr. Gerd Albracht, Coordinator, Development of Inspection Systems at the ILO, will chair the opening session of the conference which will include presentations by Mr. Assane Diop, Executive Director of the ILO Social Protection Sector, and Dr. Sameera Al-Tuwaijri, Director of the ILO SafeWork Programme. The conference will be held at the same time as the A+A 2007 International Trade Fair and International Congress on Occupational Safety and Industrial Medicine. This annual trade fair attracts some 1,400 exhibitors and over 54,000 professional visitors. The main theme of A+A is personal safety and a wide range of safety clothing and equipment will be presented at the fair. Other areas covered include occupational safety at the enterprise level, preventive fire protection, health at the workplace and ergonmics, with a special focus on office work and equipment. The congress is organized by the Federal Consortium for Safety and Health at the Workplace (Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft für Sicherheit und Gesundheit bei der Arbeit (Basi) e.V.) and will cover international developments in the field of prevention with more than 40 meetings and over 350 speakers. The A+A will also provide an international meeting point for several networks in occupational safety and health: the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work will be holding its meeting of Focal Points and the annual Meeting of CIS National, Regional and Collaborating Centres will take place on 19 and 20 September.
