    • International Training Centre of the ILO
    • The International Training Centre of the ILO, located in Turin, Italy, offers training and learning programmes and services to representatives of the three ILO constituencies: governments, workers' organizations, and employers' organizations. The Centre provides a variety of training courses on-campus in Turin, training events in-country or in-the-region, distance learning programmes, postgraduate programmes and custom-made conferences and seminars.

      The Turin Centre training programme on occupational safety and health (OSH) covers:    

    • the formulation of national policy and strategies    
    • the strengthening of government departments (inspection systems, information centres and networks, education and training systems, research and analysis, compensation and rehabilitation systems)    
    • strategy at the sectoral and enterprise levels.

    • Programme on Safety and Health at Work and the Environment (SafeWork), ILO
    • SafeWork, the Programme on Safety and Health at Work and the Environment of the ILO, offers an interactive educational programme called SOLVE, designed to assist in the development of policy and action to address psychosocial issues at the workplace.

      Stress, alcohol and drugs, violence (both physical and psychological), HIV/AIDS and tobacco all lead to health-related problems for the worker and lower productivity for the enterprise or organization. Taken together they represent a major cause of accidents, fatal injuries, disease and absenteeism at work in both industrialized and developing countries. SOLVE focuses on prevention in translating concepts into policies and policies into action at the national and enterprise levels.

        ATTENTION: the programme SOLVE is under revision. New information will be provided when it is available.

    • Nordic Institute for Advanced Training in Occupational Health
    • NIVA is a Nordic institution funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers to provide advanced training for experts in the fields of occupational health and safety, and work life in general. The NIVA concept is based on the idea of broader networking of all the Nordic governments, authorities and research institutions.

      NIVA offers a wide range of courses every year dealing with occupational safety and health, work organization and related matters. The working language of all the courses is English and attendance by persons from outside the Nordic Countries is encouraged. The NIVA office is located at the premises of the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health in Helsinki.

      • The NTT Treinamento Avançado was created in 1978, in joint action with the Engineering School of the Federal University of Rio De Janeiro. It offers courses in engineering and management.       • Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS)
      • The CCOHS offers workplace health and safety related training using a variety of delivery methods that include traditional classroom style courses held at CCOHS or on-site and newly developed web-based e-Learning.

        New CCOHS E-courses include Emergency Preparedness for Workers, Emergency Response Planning, and Health & Safety for Office Managers. Some E-courses are offered free of charge such as Violence in the Workplace: Awareness; that is to promote the awareness of this very important issue, and to serve as a precursor to the other Workplace Violence e-courses: Recognize the Risk and Take Action, and Establish a Prevention Programme.

      • Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Learning Centre
      • CSA develops standards, codes and information products spanning diverse areas like climate change, infrastructure, electricity and health and safety. Some programmes have been developped in collaboration with the Industrial Accident Prevention Association (IAPA) (see below). It also offers on-site seminars and many e-learning options.

      • S.E.S.O. is a non-profit association of scientific nature that aims at the prevention of occupational risks.       • Society for Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA) Continuing Education
      • PRIA Continuing Education is an international center for learning and promotion of participation and governance, for transferring its experience, knowledge and learning. This vast pool of knowledge and learning has been synthesized and packaged into distance education programmes, including one titled Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety. This course is designed for safety officers working in the industry, trade union activists who have involvement for the health and safety of the workers. It is focused on capacity building and demystifying the concepts and practices of the issue and in the long run aims at educating each one concerned about and interested in the subject, in the anticipation, recognition, measurement, prevention, control and remediation of workplace-related hazards and disease.       • Master in Risk Assessment and Risk Analysis
      • This third edition of the Master course in Risk Assessment and Risk Analysis is organized by the University of Milan (Department of Occupational and Environmental Health - Faculty of Medicine, and Department of Pharmacological Sciences - Faculty of Pharmacy), in collaboration with the University of Milan Bicocca, the University of Insubria Como and the International Centre for Pesticides and Health Risk Prevention (Hospital Luigi Sacco, Milan), and qualified professionals from European and international institutions.

        The Master is intended for graduates and professionals wishing to specialize and take up a career in risk assessment and risk analysis.

        All courses are in English. The Master course has a duration of eight months full time (from November 2008 to July 2009) and includes a theoretical part and practical training. The theoretical part is composed of 510 hours of lectures, exercises, work groups, seminars, study visits to laboratories and institutions operating in the field of risk assessment and risk analysis. Practical training will be organized throughout Europe at scientific institutions, agencies or companies in the agro-chemical products sector.

      • Swiss National Accident Insurance Organization (SUVA)
      • The Suva organizes a variety of courses in French, German and Italian aimed at people who have a certain influence on occupational safety and health in entreprises at all levels. Courses include general interdisciplinary training seminars made for safety engineers and safety professionals, as well as basic safety and health training recommended for directors, managers and safety and health coordinators.

        The Suva also organizes special courses on specific subjects such as construction, ergonomics, control of noise at work, designing machines in conformity with safety regulations and protection against radiation.

        Details of the 2009 programme of courses and general conditions for course participation may be consulted on the SUVA Web site in French, in German and in Italian.

        Learning programmes dealing with construction safety, ergonomics at computer workstations anlinks_extd workplace hazards and safety measures are also available online. Lung diseases, explosions, prevention of avalanche risk are programmes available on CD-ROM.

      • University Institute of Occupational Health (Institut universitaire romand de Santé au Travail) (IST)
      • The Institute for Work and Health (IST) is a private organization funded by the Cantons of Vaud and Geneva and affiliated with the Universities of Lausanne and Geneva, whose missions include teaching, research, consulting and promotion in the field of occupational health.

        The many teaching activities include a postgraduate programme in occupational health (Master of Advanced Studies in Health at Work) which involves continuous and specialized interdisciplinary training for future occupational physicians, occupational hygienists and ergonomists. Courses are given in both Zurich and Lausanne in French, German or English. Training takes the form of classes, seminars, practical exercises, written/academic projects, as well as visits and consulting within SMEs and international companies. Topics are taught by teachers from both academic and private institutions. This postgraduate programme is intended for holders of a university level diploma, working or planning to work in the area of health and safety at work.

      • The OSHA Directorate Office of Training and Education (DTE) develops, directs, oversees, manages and ensures implementation of OSHA’s national training and education policies and procedures.

        The OSHA Training Institute (OTI) provides training and education in occupational safety and health for federal and state compliance officers, state consultants, other federal agency personnel, and the private sector.

        The OSHA Training Institute Education Centers offer the most frequently requested OSHA Training Institute courses for the private sector and other federal agency personnel at locations throughout the United States.         The OSHA Outreach Training Program is a primary way to train workers in the basics of occupational safety and health. Material and training are also available in Spanish.

        The Disaster Site Worker Outreach Training Program is a training program for Disaster Site Workers who provide skilled support services, (e.g. utility, demolition, debris removal, or heavy equipment operation) or site clean-up services in response to natural and man-made disasters. Specifically, it is recognized that all workers at disaster sites need to be aware of the differences between disaster sites and regular construction or demolition worksites and be able to inspect, don, and doff air-purifying respirators.
