Reports of activitiesIn March of even-numbered years, CIS reports to the Governing Body on its accomplishment of the programme of the preceding biennium. These reports are available for the periods listed below.
MilestonesCIS was established in 1959 with the aim of faciliating the exchange of information about occupational safety and health being published around the world, whatever the format or the language. Between 1959 and 1973 CIS published its information in the form of bibliographic card sets that were sent to subscribers worldwide. In 1973 it became one of the first services of its kind to computerize, and it has maintained a continuous, bilingual (English and French), high-quality database ever since. In 1984, financial support from National Centres ceased. In 1986, CISDOC became the first ILO database to appear on CD-ROM. Until the end of 2003, new information added to this database was published in CIS's bimonthly bulletin Safety and Health at Work - ILO/CIS Bulletin. In 1992, CIS became responsible for the ILO Encyclopaedia of Occupational Health and Safety. In 2004, CIS began providing free access to the Encyclopaedia, CISDOC and the CIS Thesaurus on the Internet.
