International CollaborationIn addition to its network of National CIS Centres and Collaborating Centres, CIS maintains relations with a wide variety of national and international bodies. For example... We participate in the preparation and publication of the International Chemical Safety Cards (ICSCs) of the International Programme on Chemical Safety (IPCS). CIS has on several occasions represented the ILO on the Coordinating Group for Chemical Information Exchange of the Inter-Organization Programme for the Sound Management of Chemicals (IOMC) , in which United Nations agencies come together once or twice a year as mandated by Chapter 19 of Agenda 21, the final report of the 1992 UN Conference on the Environment and Development in Rio de Janiero. This working group has produced guides to information sources, most recently an Internet Guide: Finding information on chemicals, which complements an earlier Inventory of Information Sources on Chemicals. A less formal activity is the Global Information Network on Chemicals (GINC). Although the visible part of the GINC is a collection of links among sites on the World Wide Web, there is a steering committee that includes the agencies of the IPCS, the National Institute of Health Sciences of Japan and other national bodies, and CIS usually represents the ILO in this forum. The capacity-building activities of the steering committee members have helped safety, health and environment agencies in several developing countries to gain access to the Internet and become visible in the GINC. With support from the Finnish Agency for International Development (FINNIDA), CIS has undertaken long-term technical cooperation work in Africa and Asia. Other national donor agencies in the Nordic countries have financed one-off seminars and workshops over the years. CIS may participate in the creation of working groups for specific publications or activities. One such case is the steering committee for the production of International Hazard Datasheets on Occupation.
