Normative Standards

This agenda for action presupposes a common commitment to a society which functions under the rule of law, intends equality of treatment and opportunity for all, and seeks inclusive, democratic participation.

These principles are the essence of International Conventions and European Directives intended to serve as foundations for national law and practice. Relevant international instruments lay out normative language intended for incorporation in national legislation and ensuing practice.

The standards

  • The European Union "Race Directive"

Council Directive 2000/43/EC of 29 June 2000 implementing the principle of equal treatment between persons irrespective of racial or ethnic origin

  • International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

  • The ILO Discrimination (Employment and Occupation) Convention 111, 1958

  • ILO C97 Migration for Employment Convention (Revised), 1949

  • ILO C143 Migrant Workers (Supplementary Provisions) Convention, 1975

  • International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families, 1990
