Activities

  • The International Migration Programme has commissioned a project on migrant workers in Kuwait, entitled: "A Review of the Recruitment System in an International context." A survey was carried out on foreign workers and their employers in Kuwait and the results were completed in November 2001.
  • "Foundations of Dignity; Currents Dynamics of Migration and the Response of International Standards" - (pdf 568 KB) keynote paper presented by Patrick Taran at International Parliamentary Union (IPU) Forum at the World Conference Against Racism and Xenophobia, Durban, September 2.
  • In 2001, the International Migration Programme carried out a DFID (Department for International Development,UK) sponsored research project on Skilled Labour Migration ('the brain drain') from Developing Countries: Analysis of Impact and Policy Issues. A series of core reports have been produced along with seven country studies on the brain drain phenomena which will be published as ILO working papers.
  • Advisory work was conducted in Indonesia. Following an agreement with the Indonesian Ministry of Labour, ILO Migration Branch is involved in offering technical assistance.
  • Senior Migation Specialist, Mr. Piyasiri Wickremasekara presented a paper at a seminar on "Immigration: International and European Framework, labour and Social Integration" organised by the International Organisation for Migration in Rome.
