Country studies in developing and transition countries and a report on working time around the world

A series of country studies is being conducted to investigate key issues and trends in working time and work organization in selected developing and transition countries in which working times issues appear to be prominent, with a focus on identifying trends and issues in the countries concerned. Country studies have been conducted in Azerbaijan, Brazil, Chile, China, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Jamaica, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, the Russian Federation, Senegal and Tunisia.

These country studies will provide the foundation for a report on working time around the world. While the issues and themes that will be covered in this report will emerge primarily from these country studies, it is expected that, at a minimum, the report will address the following topics: long hours and overtime; 'unsocial' hours of work; differences in hours of work by sector, gender and age; flexible working time arrangements; and working time in the informal economy. The report is expected to be published in 2007.
