Higher productivity and a better place to work: Action manual (1988), by J.E. Thurman, K. Kogi and A.E. Louzine

This manual shows how to take simple, effective, low-cost action which raises productivity while improving conditions at the workplace. Owners and managers of small and medium-sized enterprises will find useful ideas on key topics, such as the handling and storage of materials, lighting, workstation design, safe and efficient machine operation, plant layout and work organization. These ideas are based on the actual experience of hundreds of owners and managers of small and medium-sized enterprises who have participated in training programmes organized by the ILO. The emphasis is on practical, locally appropriate measures directly related to productivity.

This manual is accompanied by a trainers' manual which describes innovative ways of organizing training events. Both manuals are intended to meet an important gap in the existing literature concerned with productivity and conditions at the workplace.
