Before joining the ILO, Mr. Eyraud was a researcher for the National Scientific Research Center (CNRS) at the Laboratoire d'Economie et de Sociologue du Travail (LEST) at Aix-en Provence and associate professor at the Faculty of Economic Sciences teaching labour economy. He was a visiting fellow at the Industrial Relations Research Unit (IRRU) at the University of Warwick (1978/79)

He joined the ILO in 1989 as Senior Technical Adviser in Industrial Relations and Wages, followed by Director of the ILO office in Madagascar. He was a co-author of the World Labour Report on industrial relations, democracy and social stability before being appointed responsible for career development and resourcing in the Human Resources Department. He is currently Director of the Conditions of Work and Employment Programme. He has published books and articles on collective bargaining, wages, skills and new technology, discrimination and labour market issues.
