Message from IIRA Secretary|
|Dear members and colleagues,|
As mentioned in the previous Bulletins, here we are with our first electronic edition.
We do hope that it works well. Please let us know whether you are encountering any difficulty in receiving
this Bulletin electronically. As all of you know, by sending the Bulletin electronically we want to reduce
the costs of postage that were becoming too expensive.
I am very happy to report that the IIRA has continued to organise many successful events. This proves that
the Association is vibrant and well ahead in the research and academic world in industrial and employment relations.
At the World Congress in Sydney, there will be an important IIRA Council meeting during which several decisions
have to be taken for the future of our Association. I do hope that all national associations will be represented.
The IIRA Council will take place on Monday, 24 August 2009 in the morning, following the IIRA Executive Committee
that will take place on Sunday, 23 August 2009 in the morning. More details about the exact time and venues
of both meetings will be communicated in due course.
I am also very happy to inform you that the forthcoming 9th IIRA European Regional Congress will be
organised in Copenhagen from 28 June to 1 July 2010. Our good Danish friends have decided to organise
the Congress at the University of Copenhagen. At the same time, I have received confirmation that the
7th IIRA Asian Regional Congress will be held in Indonesia in 2010. More details about dates and
venue will be communicated in the next Bulletin.
Lastly, this edition of the Bulletin gives me the opportunity to wish to all of you my Best Wishes for 2009.
I am looking forward to working closely with you in the forthcoming IIRA events.
Best kind regards,

Buenos Aires, Argentina, 2-4 September 2008
Congratulations to the organisers of the 6th IIRA Regional Congress of the Americas held
in Buenos Aires on 2-4 September 2008. It was an excellent event with many participants coming from
different parts of the world. More than 600 participants took part in it. During the Congress, there
was a special event dedicated to the presentation of the book in honour of Dr. Luis Aparicio Valdez.
Distinguished speakers were invited to greet our friend Luis, among others the former Minister of Labour of
Peru, Prof. Mario Pasco Cosmopolis, and our President, Prof. Russell Lansbury. The collection of essays is
available in a volume in Spanish. It is entitled: "Relaciones Laborales en el Mundo" (Grijley, APERT, Lima, 2008).
A brief summary report of the main topics discussed in the Regional Congress will be sent to you in the next issue of this Bulletin.
Once again, congratulations and thanks to Dr. Pedro Nunez, President of ARTRA, Dr. Julio A. Grisolia,
Vice-President of ARTRA, Dr. Jorge Macri, Past-President of ARTRA and all their colleagues for
having put so much effort in organising such a successful Congress.
News from IIRA members|

On October 4 2008, the first general assembly of the newly established Sri Lankan Chapter of the IIRA was held
During this meeting, the Minister of Labour and Manpower of Sri Lanka, Mr. Atauda Seneviratne stressed the

economic growth and guarantee employment for workers. The Sri Lanka Association was looking forward to
