Prof. Luis APARICIO VALDEZ was born on 26 December 1930 in Lima, Peru. He obtained his law degree at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima in 1957. He is currently a member of the National Labour Council of the Ministry of Labour and Employment Promotion, as representative of the Social Institutions, the director of Análisis Laboral (since its foundation in 1977), Informe Laboral, Análisis Salarial and Informe Salarial, the director of Asociación Peruana de Relaciones de Trabajo (APERT) and the president of AELE.

He was the vice president of the International Society of Labour Law and Social Security from 1991 to 1994, the founder president of the Asociación Peruana de Relaciones de Trabajo (1982-1985 / 1996-1999), the founder president of the Sociedad Peruana de Derecho del Trabajo y de la Seguridad Social (1988-1991) and several times President of Advisory Board of the Ministry of Labour and Employment Promotion. From 1962 to 1986 he was the principal professor of Labour Law and Social Security at the Universidad del Pacífico and in 2000 he was professor at the Faculty of Law, Program of Industrial Relations, Universidad Nacional de Trujillo, Peru. He is honorary professor of the Faculty of Law and Politics Sciences of the Universidad Nacional de Trujillo, Peru. Prof. Aparicio Valdez was decorated by the Peruvian Government with the Labour Order, grade of Great Official in 1973 and was given the grade of Commander by the Tribunal Superior do Trabalho do Brazil, in 1996.

Prof. Luis Aparicio passed away on 26 June 2009. We will remember him as a great friend, an excellent mentor and a wonderful person.
