Prof Luis Aparicio Valdez, Sra. Maruja Aparicio, Sra. Maria Helena Aparicio
Luis Aparicio Valdez was ILERA’s President from 2003 to 2006 and, in this role, was the host of the 14th ILERA World Congress in Lima, Peru in 2006. Sadly, he became quite ill during that year as he battled a series of ailments including cancer. Despite this, Luis led a team of dedicated colleagues who staged a very successful World Congress. He passed away shortly after the 6th Regional Congress of the Americas held in Buenos Aires, Argentina in September 2008.
Luis Aparicio Valdez was known throughout Latin America as a scholar passionately committed to the study of all aspects of labour and industrial relations. He was a professor of industrial relations at university level and a prolific author of books and articles. He is particularly remembered for the strong encouragement he gave to many young scholars in the field. By nature, he was a warm, open and respectful man and these qualities made it possible for him to bring governments, academia, and companies together to discuss issues of employment relations. He was the founder and President of the Asociación Peruana de Relaciones de Trabajo (APERT) and assisted colleagues in other Latin American countries with the establishment of such networks.
The family and friends of Luis have established the Luis Aparicio Prize in his honour and to reward emerging scholars based on their contribution to the study and research in any aspect of work, employment, labour and employment relations. It is designed to recognize outstanding contributions to research and policy by relatively recent entrants to the field. An emerging scholar is a person ten years or less from receipt of the terminal degree (Ph.D. or other terminal degree such as a law degree). The prize will be awarded once every three years on the occasion of an ILERA World Congress and the winner receives a financial award and a plaque.
Any member of ILERA, or a member of any of the national associations affiliated with ILERA may nominate a person for this prize. Letters of nominations should be accompanied by the nominee’s résumé/curriculum vitae or by a substantial account of the accomplishments of the nominee and may be sent to the ILERA Secretariat at email@example.com.
Closing date for nominations: 9 March 2018
