Melanie Binet has been responsible for the development, implementation & defence of industrial relations strategies on a state & national basis. She has a particular interest in human resource matters & has had extensive involvement in the development, implementation & enforcement of workplace policies and procedures including the management of performance & misconduct. She has appeared as counsel in the various State & Federal courts & tribunals dealing with employment related matters in Australia. She has substantial experience in workplace training - developing and delivering customized training on a variety of employment related matters from the shop floor to the boardroom. She has significant expertise in workplace investigations, audits & inquiries including conducting of inquires on behalf of statutory investigative bodies.

Melanie holds a Bachelor of Economics with a double major in IR & HR/Management. She also holds a Bachelor of Laws - both from the University of WA. As a final year law student she drafted the 30,000 word text of the original WA industrial law section of Halsbury’s Laws of Australia.

Throughout her career Melanie has played an active role in the various industry representational bodies. She was a Chartered Member & former State Convener of the Australian Human Resource Institute and Deputy Convener of the Law Society of Western Australia Employee Relations Committee & President of the Industrial Relations Society of WA. In 2011 she was elected National President of the Australian Labour and Employment Relations Association.

Melanie is since 1 February 2016 Deputy President of the Fair Work Commission of Australia.
