Kimmie Weeks and YEN's Youth-to-Youth Fund

Youth Action International (YAI) is a global nonprofit organization working in Liberia to improve the opportunities for young women to find decent employment and start their own business. YAI was started and is inspired by acclaimed youth activist Kimmie Weeks, a survivor of the Liberian Civil War. After having survived enormous personal tragedy, Kimmie has gone on to receive the 2007 Golden Brick Award and has been decorated the Knight Grand Commander in the Humane Order of African Redemption in Liberia, all before the age of 25. Synapse Centre's Ciré Kane and YEN

Ciré Kane is a shining example of how one persons dedication, hard work and commitment to social change can be inspiration to an entire generation of African youth. Ciré is the Executive Director of the Synapse Centre, a Senegalese organization working to provide employability skills to promising young people though entrepreneurship and business training. Youth play a vital role in DRC accession as a YEN Lead Country and the NAP development
Alice MIRIMO KABETSI, President of YWCA – DRC, tells her story of Congo’s accession as a YEN Lead Country. Alice has been involved in youth participation in and development in Congo since graduating from the University of Kinshasa with a degree in Law in 2001. She also practises law in several areas, including human rights. Many of her clients are victims of sexual violence and HIV/AIDS. Read more.

 

YEN West Africa produces a video on the 10,000 girls project in Senegal
In 2006, with the help of the local film producer Mr. Adam Sie, YEN's West Africa office filmed a short video on the "10,000" girls programme in Kaolack, Senegal. The initiative is run by the inspirational Ms. Voila Vaughn who started the project in 2004. Since that time "10,000 girls" has grown to 6 locations encompassing 1500 students. The film demonstrates how young girls can be empowered to gain meaningful employment. Read more.

 

Ghana becomes the 20th Lead Country of the YEN in September 2008
