The International Labour Organization is strongly committed to poverty eradication as is evidenced by the statement of the 1944 Declaration of Philadelphia “poverty anywhere constitutes a danger to prosperity everywhere”. The ILO’s Decent Work paradigm is clear: Decent work is for ALL, including workers beyond the formal labour markets, including the poor. Eradication of poverty is today an indispensable condition for lasting peace. Without the full and effective participation of the poor in global growth, the challenge of peace and development will not be met.
