Overview

The institute coordinates and executes with other institutions all public activities related to the Beijing Platform of Action.

The ISDEMU is the consolidated and recognized public institution in the national and international scope, that coordinates the governmental and nongovernmental activities, in the decentralized implementation of the diverse components of the "National Policy of the Women", that has fortified the integral development of the women in conditions of greater equality of opportunities and a more sensitive society to the rights of women.

The mission of ISDEMU is to promote the integral development of women by formulating and implementing the "National Policy of the Women" and to coordinate its effective execution.

Within the Beijing Platform of Action the activities of ISDEMU cover the following policy areas:

Strategic objectives and action plans have been established for each one of these areas for the period of 1999-2004.

In the women and work area the objectives are to obtain equal employment opportunities, to eliminate discrimination, including the wage inequality, to enable the access of women to the positions of greater influence and to increase the training of women in the different branches and occupational groups in the economic production.

Projects

Project of Construction and Equipment of the Training Centers for the Women of Sensuntepeque

The project consists of constructing the infrastructure and equipping the training center for women in the city of Sensuntepeque. The training center has the following fields of training:

For each field, 16 women of 15-18 years are admitted both to day and evening classes. The courses offer both theoretical and practical classes, and the courses last approximately three months. Each year, the center arranges three courses in each field.

One fundamental element of the project is the incorporation of day-care facilities in the training center. The day-care center admits children of 3 months to 6 years. The center can take care of 1,152 children in each year.

Specific objectives of the project are the following:

Capacitating Rural Women Leaders and Sustainable Rural Development

The general mission of the project is to contribute to the sustainable and equitable development of the rural woman. The project tries to multiply the number of rural women leaders in order to promote the equality of opportunities and participation, to surpass their conditions of poverty, marginalization and discrimination. In this context, it is important to emphasize the incorporation in the project of the farming technicians who work in governmental institutions.
