Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training (KRIVET) was established in 1997 with support from the government. The Institute is dedicated to research on technical and vocational education and training (TVET) and human resources development (HRD), and supporting government policies to develop the vocational capacity of its citizens through TVET as part of lifelong learning.

The Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training (KRIVET) was established in September 1997 to support the national policy on human resources development and the development of vocational capacity of Koreans through lifelong learning. With Dr. Mu-Keun LEE as the first President, KRIVET launched its operation on 18 October 1997, hence the celebration of its birth on 18 October each year.

Due to the nature of 'technical-vocational training and education (TVET)' as a point where both education and labor concerns meet, KRIVET has maintained a close partnership with two ministries in particular, the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development and Ministry of Labor. KRIVET advises the two Ministries regarding TVET and HRD policies, and supports their implementation.

For a relatively young organization, KRIVET has accomplished much by research and innovative initiatives in TVET/HRD sectors, and this is true of its international initiatives. We launched our first major effort by organizing "The Second International Congress on Technical and Vocational Education" and "The International Exhibition on Technical and Vocational Education" in 1999.

KRIVET serves the following key functions:
