EDUCATE - Iceland is a co-operation forum between the educational sector, the
social partners, local authorities and others interested in education and
training. The main focus of the work of EDUCATE is to gather and disseminate
information and to facilitate transference of knowledge and competences.
EDUCATE furthermore carries out projects related to education and trainingand
acts asa venue for discussion between the educational and employment
sectors and policy makers.
EDUCATE is an independent legal entity established in November 1998.
Withits foundation, the focus is placed on building trust between the
various sectors involved in education and training, ensuring their active
involvement and the importance of co-operation.
EDUCATE is a forum for co-operation between the employment and educational
sectors regarding the development of education.The work focuses on the
development of 2nd level, 3rd level and continued education.
The main actions undertaken can be divided around four key themes:
1. Gathering and distributing information on issues such as legislation, policy,
research, pilot projects, available educational courses, etc. For this purpose
EDUCATE undertakes different projects.
The development of a web-site with information about educational
opportunities in the country.
Being the Icelandic member of the Information and Documentation Network of
CEDEFOP.
Actively participating in European network related actions, such as the
European Regional Educational Network for peripherial countries(EREN)
orTheBusiness Educational Network in Europe (BENE).
2. Supporting the involvement of the sector in European work. This is done by:
Promoting the Leonardo da Vinci programme of the European Union,
supporting those interested in being involved and distributing the results
of Leonardo projects.
Overseeing and acting as National Contact Point for the Europass programme
of the European Union.
Acting as the National Liason and technical office in Iceland for the
CEDEFOP study visits.
Acting as a broker for those searching for partners for projects.
3. Managing projects on behalf of the governmental, public or private sectors.
Examples include:
Organisation of the National Day of Life-long Learning in 1999 and the
National Week of Life-long Learning in 2000
Organisation of different conferences, meetings and other events on
educational issues.
Comparisons between aspects of VET systems in different countries.
Making policy and development proposals.
4. Supporting co-operation between the different actors in the sector. Among
other things this involves:
Working groups on different issues of common interest.
Providing opportunities for a sharing of information on the different work
being carried out.
Awarding best practice in vocational education and training.
Members in EDUCATE are trade unions, associations of employers, universities,
vocational and further education schools and local authorities, as well as
foundations and companies involved or interested in educational issues.
Membership of EDUCATE is open to all legal entities who work on or have an
interest in educational issues.
