The Research Centre for Gender Equality (KETHI), a Legal Entity under Private Law, was founded in 1994. The main office is in Athens and there are four branches in Thessaloniki, Patras, Heraklion and Volos. KETHI is supervised and funded by the General Secretariat for Equality of the Ministry of the Interior, Public Administration and Decentralisation.

The basic aims of KETHIs activities have a dual focus: to conduct social research on gender equality issues and to improve womens status and enable their advancement in all areas of political, economic and social life, within the framework of the policies defined by the General Secretariat for Equality. 

Objectives

KETHI operates

  1. Information and Counselling Centres for Womens Employment, Entrepreneurship and Social Integration in Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, Heraklion and Volos address:
    • Unemployed women wishing to integrate or re-integrate into the labour market
    • Employed women threatened by unemployment
    • Women wishing to set up a business
    • Women facing problems of social exclusion
    • Women requesting information and counselling regarding issues on social integration or reintegration, career orientation, employment, legislation
    • Women in need of legal aid
  2. A Documentation Department that:     
    • Organizes and develops multiple databases
    • Processes and disseminates statistical data and information through KETHIs web site (www.kethi.gr) on issues pertaining to womens rights and to gender equality policies
    • Organizes and updates the sites of KETHIs web site that provide information on: projects, studies, publications and issues on gender equality
    • Drafts the periodical report on female employment situation in Greece (CEDAW)
