National Productivity Programme 2000-2003 - Finland

The Finnish National Productivity Programme, the theme of which is Productivity for the Future, is a practical research programme launched by the Economic Council led by the Prime Minister.
The main objectives of the National Productivity Programme are
to increase the functionality of workplace communities
to speed up productivity-improvement in companies and other types of organisations
to promote Finland´s competitive edge in international markets
to raise the employment rate and level of income
We endeavour to attain these objectives by financing research projects aimed at creating changes in work practices and modes of operation and promoting the well-being of employees as well as productivity-improvement. Management and staff co-operate in the implementation of planning and change processes.
The priorities recorded for the projects to be selected for the years 2000-2003 are the following:
to improve and utilise the competence of employees at various stages of the career by developing the work organisation and workplace culture
to develop suitable methods and practices for improving the productivity of SMEs in the industrial and service sectors
to launch development projects related to the application of productivity know-how
11 practical research projects were selected for the Programme at the beginning of the year 2000.
The Programme does not finance the development of individual workplaces, but the companies interested in boosting their productivity can
The National Productivity Programme is a follow-up on the Programmes implemented in the years 1996-1999 and 1993-1995. It is included in the second government programme of Prime Minister Paavo Lipponen and has been launched by the Economic Council. Behind the Programme are the labour market organisations, the government, the municipalities and numerous entrepreneurs, whose representatives form the Programme´s steering committee.
