The Finnish National Productivity Programme, the theme of which is Productivity for the Future, is a practical research programme launched by the Economic Council led by the Prime Minister.

The main objectives of the National Productivity Programme are

We endeavour to attain these objectives by financing research projects aimed at creating changes in work practices and modes of operation and promoting the well-being of employees as well as productivity-improvement. Management and staff co-operate in the implementation of planning and change processes.

The priorities recorded for the projects to be selected for the years 2000-2003 are the following:

11 practical research projects were selected for the Programme at the beginning of the year 2000.

The Programme does not finance the development of individual workplaces, but the companies interested in boosting their productivity can

  1. apply the methods and practices developed under the National Productivity Programme to their own workplaces, or
  2. seek to participate in the different projects under the National Productivity Programme and in this way receive support from a research consultant for the development of their operations

The National Productivity Programme is a follow-up on the Programmes implemented in the years 1996-1999 and 1993-1995. It is included in the second government programme of Prime Minister Paavo Lipponen and has been launched by the Economic Council. Behind the Programme are the labour market organisations, the government, the municipalities and numerous entrepreneurs, whose representatives form the Programme´s steering committee.
