Governments in many countries now recognize that mental health issues represent a major challenge to employers and policy-makers alike. The growing awareness of the social and economic costs of mental health problems has led to the introduction of new policies and programme measures which aim to promote mental health in the workplace and develop work opportunities for people with mental health difficulties.
In a series of country studies the International Labour Office has examined legislative, policy and programme measures introduced in Finland, Germany, Poland, United States to address the challenge. The studies will assist in developing policy and enterprise-specific programmes which address the prevention of mental health problems and the promotion of good mental health practices and rehabilitation services.
