Advisory Support
ASIST provides comprehensive policy, planning and technical advice.
ASIST advise on project and programme design, coordination, monitoring
and review of both urban and rural labour-based programmes.
Information Services
ASIST Technical Enquiry Service
ASIST offers a Technical Enquiry Service (TES) which provides technical
information upon request on employment-intensive technology to projects,
consultants, policy makers, donors training institutions and others interested
in labour-based methods and management.
ASIST also has links to other information resources around the world, and
maintains contact with experts in the field who can be called upon to provide
technical advice or information.

ASIST Document Centre
To support the technical enquiry service ASIST actively collects both
published and unpublished documents on employment intensive technology and
related topics. The collection includes text books, research reports, project
reports, technical manuals, training material, periodical articles, etc, most
of which are in English, and a small number in French and Portuguese.
A computerised bibliographic database, called ASISTDOC is maintained to
facilitate quick and easy access to the collection of over 9000 documents. The ASISTDOC is
now on the web for information search and ordering of documents from the ASIST
Information Service.
Contacts database
A database of labour-based technology practitioners ASIST maintains a
network database of people and organisations concerned with alleviating poverty
through employment-intensive infrastructure works.
Training
Services
ASIST provides support to national training institutions and universities in
the development and provision of training in labour-based technology. This
involves support in the development of curricula, training programmes, training
material, as well as training techniques and methodology. University Networks have been established in
Africa and Asia for the development and introduction of the material as well as
for sharing of information and experiences between the universities.
ASIST also facilitates annual international training courses for engineers,
senior technicians and trainers in collaboration with the Ministry of Roads and
Public Works, Kisii Training Centre, in Kenya.
