International course in labour-based road construction and maintenance

Details: For engineers and managers of labour-based roadworks. University degree is a requirement. Covers choice of technology, all aspects of planning, implementation and management of labour-based construction and maintenance roadworks including the use of contractors.

Supervising labour-based roadworks contracts

Date: 8th March � 1st April 2005

Fees: USD 4,200 (covers course and subsistence; excludes travel)

Details: Targeted at engineers or senior technicians supervising labour-based road construction and maintenance contracts. The course covers contract document preparation, tendering, evaluation, negotiation and awarding of contracts; contract implementation and supervsion.

Inter-regional workshop on Employment-Intensive Investment Policies and Programmes � Putting employment at the centre of public investment and poverty reduction processes

Description: The course aims at imparting knowledge on the concepts, tools and operational aspects for the adoption and effective implementation of national investment policies favouring the use of employment-intensive techniques for employment creation and poverty reduction. It is targeted at high-level Government policy- makers and officials responsible for the development of macro-economic/sectoral policies and national investment plans, as well as those dealing with employment and poverty reduction strategies; International and national associations of workers and employers representing small contractors in the construction sector; donor representatives in charge of managing aid and determining criteria for its sector attribution; educational and training institutions in the development field; and managers of development programmes.

Water, Engineering and Development Centre (WEDC)

Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS)

IHS provides participatory and action-oriented training, aimed at improving knowledge, skills and attitudes for managing the urban development processes of today. The course programme ranges from short post-graduate diploma courses to Master degree programmes and a PhD programme. Participants can choose either to enrol in a complete course, leading to a diploma or a degree, or to participate in one or more modules of a programme.
