Labour Based Technology Discussion Group

In order to support the education and research programmes in labour based technology in construction and maintenance, and in rural accessibility planning, it was agreed on a workshop held at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) from 30 November to 2 December 1998, that a Regional University Network. Should be developed.

The current participating Universities are:

  • Beijing University, China;
  • Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), Bhubaneswar, India;
  • Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia;
  • Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia;
  • National University of Laos, Lao PDR;
  • Central Luzon State University (CLSU), the Phillipines;
  • Thammasart University, Thailand;
  • Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand;
  • Hanoi University of Water Resources (HUWR), Vietnam;
  • Hanoi University of Communication and Transport (HUTC), Vietnam.
  • Thribuwan, Nepal

In October 1999, an agreement between Gadjah Mada University and ILO ASIST Asia- Pacific has been signed to co-ordinate the network. Participating universities are to take turns in moderating the discussion, and the Gadjah Mada University is the first moderator of the Regional University Network List server.

The rotating moderators of the University should spark the discussions.
