Tripartite Declaration on Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy - Leaflet

Research

The Multinational Enterprises Programme carries out research on labour and employment related aspects of multinationals’ operations in order to identify the positive contributions that multinational enterprises can make a to economic and social progress and to identify measures to minimize and resolve any difficulties to which their various operations may give rise. .

Research is policy-oriented and findings are used to support and promote the efforts of multinational enterprises, governments, employers’ and workers’ organizations to put the principles in the Tripartite Declaration into practice.

The studies undertaken cover one of more of the key areas in the Declaration:

  • general development policies
  • employment promotion, equality and security
  • training
  • conditions of work and life: health and safety, wages and benefits, minimum age
  • industrial relations

For the 2006-2007 Biennium, in the context of the InFocus Initiative on Corporate Social Responsibility, the Office will undertake a programme of work aimed at developing the ILO’s knowledge base on the different aspects of CSR. This will include studies of approaches emerging in different sectors; case studies of good practice; an analysis of the relationship between public regulation and inspection and the growing phenomenon of private inspection and social auditing; and voluntary reporting practices.
