Technical assistance providers

Who can provide technical assistance?

To help microinsurance providers access the expertise they need to operate a microinsurance programme, the Facility has built a roster of qualified TA providers - (xls 103 KB) and their CVs. The list includes actuaries, reinsurance advisors, management consultants, marketing and education specialists, and IT experts. These experts are independent consultants, commercial firms or persons who work for insurance and reinsurance companies and they provide technical assistance in either a private or official capacity.

TA providers are crucial as they facilitate the transfer of knowledge from insurers to microinsurers, and from one microinsurer to another, thereby hastening the development of viable and effective microinsurance services.

How can you be added to our roster of TA providers?

To be listed on our TA provider roster, candidates must complete an online application form demonstrating relevant expertise and experience in microinsurance, accompanied by their CV and satisfactory evaluations from at least three previous microinsurance assignments.

To promote south-to-south technical assistance, experienced and qualified TA providers from developing countries are strongly encouraged to submit their information to be listed on the roster.

What types of assistance is requested by microinsurance providers?

Assistance may be requested to help start a new microinsurance scheme, launch or improve products, upgrade operations, meet legal requirements or obtain reinsurance. TA might be needed to conduct market research or price products, design information systems or identify process inefficiencies, develop marketing materials or train staff, improve claims processing or create an internal audit department. Basically, any expertise that an institution lacks could be supported by technical assistance.

How will you benefit from taking part in the community of TA providers?

The Facility seeks to strengthen a community of microinsurance experts that can provide technical assistance to a variety of organizations interested in risk protection programs for low income people. As a part of this community, you will:

  • Get connected to the greater community of microinsurance providers;
  • Access and share knowledge through thematic community calls, workshops, and one-to-one information exchange;
  • Access resources (online library offering publications and tools) and benefit from opportunities (research, training and technical assistance assignments).

Mentoring a new generation of experts

TA providers on our roster may mentor insurance specialists who want to acquire working experience with the low-income market through our joint missions and fellowship programmes. By acting as a mentor, not only will you get a pair of helping hands in completing assignments but you will also be able to pass your knowledge on to a new generation of microinsurance experts.

If you are interested in being accompanied during assignments by an emerging microinsurance specialist, please email us at microinsurancetechassist@ilo.org.
