Thematic studies

Thematic studies are initiated by a wider microinsurance community and the Facility to investigate burning issues and fill important knowledge gaps in microinsurance. They are complementing other research mechanisms used by the Facility. They usually take the form of desk studies, stocktaking exercises or case study evaluations.

Studies in the pipeline are as follows:

  • Case Study of UpLift Health Microinsurance Scheme, India - led by Centre for Insurance and Risk-Management in India
  • Livestock Insurance in India - led by Centre for Insurance and Risk-Management in India
  • Third-Party Payment Mechanisms in Health Micro insurance – a joint initiative of Microinsurance Network working group on health insurance, ILO STEP programme and the Facility.
  • Micro insurance Distribution Through Utility Companies and Other 'Passive' Channels - a joint initiative of Microinsurance Network working group on distribution, the FinMark Trust and the Facility led by CENFRI from South Africa.
  • Gender and Microinsurance – Conceptual Framework and Emerging Practice – a joint initiative of Women’s World Banking, Microinsurance Centre, Zurich Financial Services, University of Bath and the Facility.
  • Client Value from Microinsurance Products - Review of Product Innovations - led by the Facility.
  • Insurance Consumer Education – Review of Practice and Tools - a joint initiative of Microinsurance Network working group on consumer education, Microinsurance Academy, Aga Khan Development Network, Financial Access Initiative and the Facility
  • The Landscape of Microinsurance in Africa - a joint initiative of Microinsurance Centre and the Facility.

Technology for Microinsurance: Scoping Study (pdf 958 KB)
The objectives of the study were to catalogue and illustrate all kinds of technologies used or potentially usable in the area of microinsurance. The study was a joint initiative of the Microinsurance Network’s working group on technology and the Facility. It was conducted in a participatory manner inviting different microinsurance stakeholders to provide their feedback through a web-based platform.
