Knowledge management

The Facility's Knowledge Management (KM) involves activities that focus on leveraging lessons learned from its Innovation Grants, Consulting and Capacity Building Activities, and Research Projects to improve practice.

The Facility is keen to share with its partners and other players involved in microinsurance the emerging experiences of what works, what does not work, and what areas need to be further explored to advance the practice of microinsurance. We engage our community of practitioners through a variety of methods so that geographic boundaries will not constrain lessons exchange, interaction and networking.

Our Knowledge Management Framework

We see the Facility's KM as an upward cycle, where lessons generated through the projects are extracted by our partners, organized and analyzed so that these may be packaged, shared and disseminated in formats that are relevant to our audiences. Once these lessons are applied, practice is improved, new lessons are generated, and the cycle continues.

Our Knowledge Management Strategy

The Facility's KM strategy is implemented through a variety of tools and approaches.

This starts with a careful selection of grantees, followed by the introduction of learning tools to ensure that the partners we work with are in the best position to generate and share the lessons they will be learning from their projects.

Eliciting and extracting knowledge for each project is aided by the use of our online Knowledge Capture toolbox. This toolbox allows the Facility and its partners to:

  • Readily access their project documents;
  • Reflect on and document their lessons in a more structured and simple way through the Learning Diary format;
  • More conveniently compile their project reports;
  • Easily retrieve needed documentation anytime.

With knowledge centralized in one location, the Facility is better able to organize, consolidate and analyze emerging lessons and trends.

The Knowledge Centre houses several spaces where these lessons from practice and other resources are presented for sharing and further discussion. To have full access to all these spaces, click here to register.

For our grantee community, the Knowledge Capture tool provides a centralized and systematic way of reporting lessons and other project developments.
