Fellowship programme

The supply of microinsurance experts remains limited. The Facility sponsors the Fellowship Programme which aims to nurture a new generation of microinsurance experts to help microinsurance providers improve the value of services they provide to low-income people.

Opportunities for emerging experts

Fellowships enable insurance professionals to gain an in-depth experience in microinsurance by working onsite on a microinsurance programme for 6-12 months under the guidance of a mentor. The Programme also supplements this immersion with additional learning activities, such as joint-missions and workshops, to round out the fellow's development.

Participants in the programme are typically professionals with substantial experience in the insurance industry but limited exposure to the low-income market. They are expected to build the insurance capacity of their host while learning to adapt their expertise to the low-income market.

Fellows who become proficient in building insurance capacity and advising on microinsurance issues at the end of their fellowship may be included in the Facility's Microinsurance Consultants Registry.

The Facility launched a first batch of Fellowship opportunities early this year and recruited nine young professionals who want to direct their careers into the microinsurance sector. We encourage you to have a look at their profiles.

If you are interested in the Fellowship Programme, please read the Fellowship booklet - (pdf 3,3 MB) and click on current opportunities to view the available fellowship posts. If your organization wants to become a host for a Fellow, please contact us at microinsuranceccb@ilo.org.
