A priority for the ILO's Facility is to help improve skills in developing and delivering microinsurance products to the low-income market. Insurance companies have the insurance skills, but lack an understanding of the market. Development practitioners know the market, but lack expertise in insurance. Our technical assistance (TA) programme aims to build capacity and fill these knowledge gaps by:
- Increasing the supply and quality of TA by
| 1. | identifying existing TA experts, |
| 2. | nurturing a new generation of microinsurance practitioners through joint
missions and fellowships, and |
| 3. | fostering knowledge exchange and building a community of experts
through online resources such as a roster, a tools library, discussion
fora, and workshops. |
- Stimulating demand for TA by
| 1. | providing TA grants to facilitate the purchase of microinsurance
expertise and partially funding expert assistance on activities such as market research,
business planning, premium calculation, product adaptation and performance assessment, |
| 2. | encouraging grantees to host a fellow to discover the benefit
of knowledge transfer. |
