Government Programmes in
Uganda - Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MFPED)
Poverty Eradication Action Plan (PEAP)
The objectives of the PEAP include:
a. Increasing sensitivity to gender issues. The MFPED works in collaboration
with the Directorate of Gender in the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social
Development, which has the leading role.
b. Empowering poor people, particularly through democratisation and greater
use of participatory approaches to planning.
c. Attending to the needs of disadvantaged groups.
d. Reducing income inequality through a macroeconomic strategy which promotes
growth in activities where the poor can participate. The Ministry focuses on
the delivery of accessible basic services to the poor, and equitable and efficient
taxation.
e. Promoting employment creation through labour-intensive technology and the
development of new economic activities. The Directorate of Employment within
the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development has a co-ordinating role
in this.
f. Monitor performance in all sectors.
