Government Programmes in Philippines - Department of Labor and Employment Women in Non-Traditional Trades Project (WINT) This programme has been funded by the Netherlands government with technical assistance from the ILO. It has been implemented to promote the entry of women into non-traditional trade and industry areas. Its components have included development of a trainers training programme for all instructors of the National Manpower and Youth Council, training of female instructors in non-traditional areas, and training of women in technology and industry. The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (an agency of the Department of Labor and Employment), is responsible technical education and skill development policies and programmes, and administers equal employment opportunities in training through the WINT programme. Action for Home-based Women Piece-rate Workers In early the 1980s, the Bureau of Women and Young Workers, part of the Department of Labor and Employment, implemented the Action Research to Promote Organization Among Women Rate Workers in the Philippines, an inter-country project to assist in the improvement of the working and living conditions of all women workers who were outside the framework of protection and rights provided by law and official policy Search for the Recognition of Outstanding Firms for Working Women In 1990, the Bureau of Women and Young Workers launched the "Search for the Recognition of Outstanding Firms for Working Women" project. It aimed to give due recognition to establishments which gave exemplary benefits to women workers and thus motivate similar measures in other companies. Elimination of Sexual Harassment in the Workplace In 1995, with the passage of Republic Act 7877 and Administrative Order 250, on sexual harassment, the Bureau of Women and Young Workers, in coordination with the ILO-Manila Office developed an advocacy plan on the elimination of sexual harassment in the workplace. The project, entitled Elimination of Sexual Harassment in the Workplace, aims to increase awareness and sensitivity among employers, personnel managers, union leaders and workers on the issue of sexual harassment and to enable them to develop a comprehensive policy and programme to prevent and eliminate sexual harassment in the workplace. |
