National Guidelines in Singapore

Tripartite Guidelines on Non-Discriminatory Job Advertisements

The Ministry of Manpower, SNEF and the NTUC launched the Guidelines on 12 March 1999. They spell out what constitutes "acceptable" and "unacceptable" job advertisements. In the selection of job candidates, the criteria should be based on merit, experience, capability and other relevant job requirements. In line with the principle of equality and good employment practices, employers should not discriminate and hence cannot use the following criteria in job advertisements:

a. race
b. religion
c. gender (unless clearly supported by bona fide requirement)
d. marital status
e. descent
f. age

National Wages Council Wage Guidelines

The Annual Guideline for Wages aims to promote non-discrimination in employment, contributing to upholding the principle of equal remuneration for men and women performing work of equal value.

Singapore Broadcasting Authority’s Free-to-Air TV Programme Code

The Code includes clauses which address stereotyping of women and girls and discourage portrayals which are likely to encourage discrimination against any section of the community on grounds of sex, age, disability or occupational status.
