Equal Employment Opportunities for Women and Men

National Guidelines in the Czech Republic - Government

Analytical Methodology of Job Evaluation for Manual Workers, Employees and Commercial Employees in the Entrepreneurial Sphere

These guidelines were developed by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs in 1991. The catalogue of job evaluations was created to facilitate the practical application of the principle of equal pay for work of equal value. It is recommended by the Ministry for use by employers in public and private work relations and can be used by workers’ claiming higher wages under the principle of equal pay for work of equal value.

In 2000 a new catalogue of job evaluations was under preparation, which will apply in connection with the new law on the civil service, and will apply job evaluation to the private sector by analogy.

Resolution of the Government of the Czech Republic on the Priorities and Procedure in Promoting Equality of Men and Women

This resolution is the Czech Republic’s strategy both for implementing the Beijing Platform for Action and for implementing EU legislation in the field of equal treatment for men and women. Important policies for women’s employment include:

  1. Legislation to ensure equal treatment in terms of pay, working conditions, social security and the fulfilment of family responsibilities. Principles of equal opportunities will be embodied in newly prepared legislative acts such as laws on employment and remuneration.

  2. Elimination of sexual segregation in the labour market.

  3. The holding of meetings of the Council of Economic and Social Agreement to promote the principle of the equal standing of men and women, especially in questions concerning remuneration and working conditions.

  4. To increase enforcement of laws and labour regulations which forbid discrimination on the grounds of sex, including the observance of the principle of equal wages for equal work and for work of the same value.

  5. Enforcement of laws and labour regulations on the protection of women at work.

  6. f. The future development of laws to enable and promote variable working hours to make it easier for employees caring for children and family to combine employment with family responsibilities.

This resolution is updated every year by Government decree.
