National Guidelines in Croatia - Government

Commission for Gender Equality

The National Action Plan for the Implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action (in English)

The Commission on Gender Equality drafted the National Policy for the Promotion of Gender Equality in order to close the gap between the legislature and actual situation in society regarding the participation of women at all levels of activity. The Government accepted it on December 18, 1997. It contained a program of action with priority goals and specific measures for advancing the status of women. It provides that the Parliament of the Republic of Croatia, state administration and judiciary bodies will promote equal representation of women and their equal participation in power and decision making structures. All ministries and the Government must take into account this policy objective.

The Policy set out a series of measures in the following fields of activities

  1. Human Rights and Equality
  2. Institutional Mechanisms for Improvement of Status of Women
  3. Women in Power and Decision Making Positions
  4. Women and Health
  5. Education and Improvement of Expertise of Women
  6. Violence against Women
  7. Women and Economy
  8. Women and Armed Conflicts.
