Equality of Opportunity in Education and Training - Government Training Programmes - Yemen Public Works Project This Project was established through Council of Ministries Decree No. 159 of 1996. It is one of the components of the Social Security Network adopted by the State in cooperation with the World Bank and International Development Agency. One of the Project's aims is to achieve employment for impoverished women in rural and urban areas and to create training and retraining opportunities for women. The project operates a large number of small labour-intensive contracts in order to create the largest possible number of job opportunities as well as promoting social participation and training for unskilled workers. The projects usually involve infrastructure services, health, education and the environment. National Program for Productive Families A decree was issued for the establishment of this programme in 1998 which is administered by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour. The programme seeks to provide vocational skills training for poor families, particularly those dependent on social security assistance. In 2000, there were 51 centres. Training included dressmaking, decoration and furnishing, secretarial work, computing, accessorizing, sculpture, carpentry, health awareness and literacy. |
