Equality of Opportunity in Education and Training - Gambia School Feeding Programme

The School Feeding Programme (SFP)

One of the strategies of implementing the National Action Plan for Education objectives towards gender equality is the School Feeding Programme. It aims to enhance regular attendance and retention of lower Basic school children through providing lunches. The target group is poor communities, particularly primary school girls. According to the Plan, the programme will be extended.

School Agriculture and Food Management Unit (SAFMU) is responsible for managing to programme through an integrated decentralized process which involves the programme beneficiaries themselves in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

Communities are encouraged to work with the schools in setting up gardens and farms to supplement the programme.
