Equality of Opportunity in Education and Training - Vocational Training Acts - Republic of Korea Vocational Training Promotion Act, 1997 This Act aims to “promote the employment of workers, to improve their status, and to enhance the productivity of enterprises by helping workers develop and exert their vocational competency to the maximum through vocational training designed to develop vocational competency, thereby contributing to the economic and social development of the nation (article 1)”. In that regard, article 3(4) indicates that vocational competency development training shall be considered important, especially for female workers. Equal Employment Act 1987 (EEA) The purpose of this Act is to realize the gender equality in employment in compliance with the idea of equality in the Constitution by ensuring equal opportunity and treatment for men and women in employment, while protecting maternity and providing support for the reconciliation of work and family life, vocational competency development and employment promotion for women.(see article 1) Chapter II deals with Vocational Competency Development, among others. Vocational Guidance and Training Employment security agencies are to make all information available to women to help them choose a job that is in line with their aptitude, ability, experience and skill (see article 15). State, local governments and employers must guarantee equal opportunities to women and men in all vocational training. The government is obliged to provide facilities and equipment necessary for this end (see article 16). |
