Equality of Opportunity in Education and Training - Ministry of National Education, Research and Technology - France

The Ministry has been redefining gender equality in school policy. This policy must eliminate perduring discrimination, both in terms of academic path and in terms of stereotyped representation of women in schoolbooks. It must also ensure respect of equality in the rights to physical and mental integrity. In March 1997, a report was presented to the Prime Minister on the representation of women and men in schoolbooks. Also in 1997, an inter-ministerial committee was set up to deal with these questions.

It has been decided to integrate the fight against sexist behaviour in the "hours of life in the form" and in the hours allocated to orientation education. One of the aims is to sensitise girls to their choices for their future occupations and to encourage their access to scientific, technological and professional careers.
