Second Report on The Nairobi Forward-Looking Strategies for the Advancement of Women (1994-2000)
With respect to education, the Government set as its objectives:
- The elimination of illiteracy for 3 million women per year, with a particular focus on women in poor and remote areas, in order that the illiteracy recurrence rate for women in developed areas is under 5% and in poor areas under 10%.
- A universal 9-year compulsory education system throughout the Peoples Republic of China, with specific attention made to reduce non-attendance and dropouts of young girls
- The increase in proportion of women receiving secondary and higher education.
- The development of vocational technical education extensively for both urban and rural women.
