Second Report on The Nairobi Forward-Looking Strategies for the Advancement of Women (1994-2000)

With respect to education, the Government set as its objectives:

  1. The elimination of illiteracy for 3 million women per year, with a particular focus on women in poor and remote areas, in order that the illiteracy recurrence rate for women in developed areas is under 5% and in poor areas under 10%.
  2. A universal 9-year compulsory education system throughout the People’s Republic of China, with specific attention made to reduce non-attendance and dropouts of young girls
  3. The increase in proportion of women receiving secondary and higher education.
  4. The development of vocational technical education extensively for both urban and rural women.
