Equality of Opportunity in Education and Training - National Program for Human Rights - Brazil The National Program for Human Rights, is a policy launched in May 1996 and administered by the Secretary on Human Rights within the Ministry of Justice. It provides for the inclusion of the gender perspective in education as well as the enhancement of the role of the National Council of Women's Rights in public policy for women's rights, a national programme to combat violence against women, a shelter programme for victims of violence, mechanisms to gather and publicise information on women and violence. The Plan proposes specific actions relevant to gender and education: Medium term actions include a gender-oriented approach in the education and training of civil and military servants, inclusion of gender aspects in the curricula of primary and high school education, and the collection of statistical data on the working conditions of women such as salaries, work shifts, work environment, occupational diseases and labour rights. Long-term actions include development of governmental policies and programmes, at federal, state and municipal levels, for the implementation of laws that ensure equal rights for men and women in every aspect, including health, education, professional training, work, social security, access to rural property and credit, culture, political participation and justice. |
