Training Course: Microfinance in Conflict-Affected
Communities
The
purpose of this course is to help participants to:
understand the main issues of implementing microfinance in conflict-affected
communities;
decide when microfinance is appropriate for a population affected
by conflict, and how such programmes should be implemented; analyse the demand for microfinance in conflict-affected communities;
design, implement and manage a sustainable
microfinance programme;
identify and develop other livelihood programmes.
Target
audience
This
training workshop and manual is directed at:
field
managers and field programme staff of NGOs and microfinance institutions;
international
organisations and donors involved or interested in supporting microfinance and
livelihood creation activities for communities affected by conflict;
government
staff responsible for planning and coordination of such programmes.
Trainees should have had at least some exposure to microfinance principles
and/or some experience of microfinance in conflict-affected communities. Donors
and implementing agencies attending the course are assumed to have a
commitment to link relief and development operations.
ILO and
UNHCR are currently developing a training curriculum for donor agencies and
their staff who need tools and knowledge to assess field requests for inclusion
of microfinance in their humanitarian programmes. If you interested in
