Positions to fill in the ILO's Microinsurance Innovation Facility

Funded by a five-year grant from the Gates Foundation, the Microinsurance Innovation Facility will provide grants and technical assistance to dozens organizations serving the poor. Over the course of the next three years, the facility will issue bi-annual requests for proposals and provide funding to pilot new insurance products, improve efficiency in the field, and use technology to create new products that better meet people’s needs. The facility will also train technical specialists to help replicate successful models.

The Facility will have four main areas of operation:

  • - Providing grants: For the first three years, beginning in March 2008, the project will issue biannual requests for proposals and provide funding to innovative efforts to improve products, institutional models and consumer education
  • - Financing technical assistance: The facility will also provide small grants to enable microinsurance schemes to purchase technical assistance from certified TA providers.
  • - Conduct research: To understand which approaches are most successful, including which ones have the greatest impact on promoting Decent Work, the project will also conduct and finance research.
  • - Disseminate lessons and tools: The tools developed and lessons learned through this project will be disseminated through a variety of channels, including publications and workshops.

Through the facility’s grantees, by 2012 at least 25 million people living in poverty will have access to insurance coverage that they otherwise would not have. In addition, the facility will conduct research to quantify the impact of the expanded availability and use, in order to guide future investments in the microinsurance industry.

To achieve its ambitious targets, the ILO is hiring for the five professional posts listed below.

Please send CVs and a cover letter to sfp@ilo.org, and indicate what position you are applying for.
