COOPAfrica’s activities in Southern Africa are currently supporting the
Botswana, Mosotho, Swazi and Zambian cooperative movements.
The cooperative situation in Southern Africa and its dynamic are specific to
each country. Nevertheless, cooperative activities in Botswana, Lesotho,
Swaziland and Zambia cut across all the economic sectors with usually an initial
agricultural tradition and a large membership in the financial sector. Another
characteristic trend for these four countries is the cooperative potential and
expansion as a result of strategies implemented as well as the structure of
their respective cooperative movement.
In order to support cooperative movement challenges in these four Southern
African countries, CoopAfrica has established a Challenge Fund mechanism and
identified a focal point within each of them.
