Capacity building and training services in Africa in the field of cooperatives is critical to strengthen the movement. In many African countries, cooperative apex organisations, cooperative colleges and other cooperative support agencies are unable to meet the needs of more market based cooperatives. The lack of support for education and training is hampering the development of modern and more efficient cooperatives. To develop sustainable cooperatives appropriate high quality cooperative education is essential.
The objective of the Challenge Fund support for training is to improve the cooperative management. To this end CoopAFRICA aims to provide, within the programme’s regional focus areas, capacity-building services to cooperative members, leaders and managers, cooperative promoters, government officials, and to all other stakeholders. Such services can include among others:
- Support in developing updated cooperative curricula;
- Support in developing appropriate management and accounting systems and tools;
- Staff training and training methods;
- Adaptation of training material.
